This base on the picture I took of a fox outside my house in south-west London. It was standing on my neighbours’ windowsill when I walked out the door one mourning.
I wanted to capture its hesitation at the time, it looked surprised to see me and unsure as to whether it should stay put or run away. This isn’t the beautiful country fox you sea in picture books with lush fur and bushy tail; this is an urban fox, in all its glorious scragginess. It looks underfed and has a ratty look, I added the shadow behind it to make the atmosphere more dramatic and ominous.
